Khentii province is known as the place where Genghis Khan was born, raised, established his empire and was finally buried after death. To this day researchers explore the area to locate his sacred tomb.
Khentii province spawns two different landscapes from Khentii Mountains in the northwest to the steppe plains in the southwest. The northwestern region of the province is included in the Khan Khentii Strictly Protected Area for its cultural and natural importance. In addition to the historical significance of this land the natural beauty of forested hills and fields strewn with wildflowers offer a peaceful sanctuary to travelers.
Some of the remarkable sights found here include 240 year old Baldan Bereeven Monastery where worshippers still make pilgrimage, the ancient deity Binder Mountain, and the rich archaeological site of Rashaan Khad.
